Conference FAQ
Q1: Where and when is the next conference?
A1: Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf--San Francisco, California. Conference dates are 3-7 May, with 2 May serving as the travel day.
Q2: How much is it going to cost?
A2: The following is a breakdown of the costs to attend the conference:
- Conference fee: $225
- Lodging: $166 per night, plus tax
- Per Diem: $39 per day (this is the proportional rate, because some meals are provided) + $5 per day for incidentals
- Parking: $22.50 per night
- Transportation to San Francisco from your duty location: this fee varies based on method of transportation
Q3: How do I get funding for the conference?
A3:
Option 1: Your unit. According to USAF/JAA, this is a valid and legal use of gov't TDY/Training funds. A commander may choose to fund any number of officers within his/her organization on TDY orders.
Option 2: Your base. If your unit is unable to fund you, CGOs or CGOC leadership may consider approaching base/wing leadership about funding a group of CGOs.
Option 3: Your CGOC. Some CGOCs have the funds to support or partially support members who wish to attend. If you are not on official orders, consider requesting Permissive TDY status. According to USAF/JAA, this is a valid PTDY. This will mean you do not burn leave to attend, but you or your CGOC will have to cover the costs.
Option 4: Your local AFA Chapter, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club or similar organizations. These groups often have funds set aside just for opportunities like this. CGOCs may consider approaching these organizations for sponsorship/support. Again, if you are not on official orders, consider requesting Permissive TDY status.
Option 5: If you are not approved by your commander to travel TDY funded, or PTDY, you may request leave for the week and pay your way.
Q4: What about local CGOs?
A4: CGOs in the local area who do not need hotel accommodations will still need to pay the conference registration fee.
Q5: What should we wear?
A5: UOD is BDU/ABU/Flight suit all week and mess dress is the uniform for the Stars and Bars Dining In. THE STARS AND BARS DINING IN IS MANDATORY AND YOU MUST WEAR YOUR MESS DRESS TO THE DINING IN
Q6: When can I register?
A6: Please see the registration section near the top of the page. Registration opened Tuesday 16 Feb 2010 and will close Friday 2 April 2010 or until all seats are filled, whichever comes first. Any registrations received after all seats are filled will be placed on a standby list.
Q7: How can I register?
A7: You can register using the link on the conference page. Please keep in mind that seats are limited to 230 and payment must be received upon registration or your name will be removed from the list to allow room for paid registrants.
Q8: What about Hotel reservations?
A8: You can register for the hotel using the following link: Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf. Please do not go directly to the hotel’s website, as you will not receive the special rate established for our group. If you are having problems with this link, please contact the conference lead.
Q9: Can I bring my spouse?
A9: Spouses are welcome, however there will be no organized events for them to attend, however they will not be able to attend conference sessions or the dining in.
Q10: Can my spouse attend conference sessions?
A10: Unless your spouse is an Air Force CGO and has paid the conference fee, he/she is unable to attend the briefings and tours. Some of the material presented is sensitive and is meant to be kept behind closed doors. Additionally, the Stars and Bars Dining In is for military members only and spouses will not be able to attend.
Q11: How do I get an incentive flight?
A11: Seats on the incentive flight are limited to the first 100 PAID registrants. Please indicate your interest in the incentive flight on the registration form. Anyone that registers after the first 100 who indicated interest in the flight will be placed on a standby list. All attendees selected for the incentive flight will be notified upon conference check-in.
Q12: Do I need to be an active member of my CGOC to attend?
A12: No, ALL CGOs are welcome! Some bases may determine funding at the base/wing level by CGOC status; however units may fund CGOs for this Professional Development Conference regardless of CGOC membership/participation.
Q13: Do I need a non-availability statement to stay at the conference hotel?
A13: No, your orders should have you attending a conference in 'San Francisco, CA' not to Travis AFB. Finance offices will not require a non-availability statement if your orders are not to a base.
