First 379 AEW/CAOC CGOC event
From AFCGOC
The first major event held by the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing and Combined Air Operations Center Company Grade Officers' Council (379 AEW/CAOC CGOC) was a smashing success. Over 50 CGOs took time out of their busy schedules to come down to the base's Desert Eagle Lounge and help kick-off the AEF 7-8 rotation. Music, free subs and snacks, as well as discounted drink prices were provided to the attendees courtesy of the CGOC. Also present were most of the 379th Wing, Group and Squadron leaders, and Brigadier General Charles W. Lyon, the 379 Air Expeditionary Wing Commander.
General Lyon, the newly arrived Wing CC, started the evening with words of
encouragement and support for the CGOC, and held a short Q & A session with
his new officer corps. Lieutenant Jennifer Mayer, CGOC president, followed
by presenting the 379 AEW/CAOC CGOC coin to the General and pledging support
from her organization to the General's special initiatives and the base
populace. US Air Force Academy cadets also participated in the event, and
played a rousing game of CRUD against a formidable group of CGOs. Despite
the cadets youthful energy and bright-eyed exuberance, the seasoned CGOs'
wise strategy won the day.
"The best aspect of the event," commented Mayer, "was simply the opportunity to hang out in a relaxed setting and meet CGOs you would never meet otherwise." When asked about the significance of the commanders' presence she said, "Their show of support really lent legitimacy to the organization, and in turn we were able to let them know we are now an active group, ready to contribute to the base."
The 379 AEW/CAOC CGOC meets for lunch in the Twin Towers room of the Manhattan Dining Facility most Fridays. To get on the e-mail distribution list and learn about future events, contact Jenny Mayer.
